Metformin Hell

Here I am back again in the beginning stages of Metformin hell. I hate with the greatest of passions taking this medicine for my PCOS. But if it helped with the conception of *B*, I know it'll help for our TTC#2 attempts so I take it regardless. For the longest time though I hadn't been taking any. Simply b/c I hadn't been into a Dr. (RE) that I saw eye to eye (re: clicked with)with to get on the meds and get back into treatments after my last script of it ran out. Then I saw my family Dr. I discussed with him my want need to be back on this medicine while I wait to get into an RE of my liking. With much persuasion on my part and some testing to make sure I wasn't completely off my rocker, he agreed. I'm on 850mgs twice daily and I hate it!! (Not sure how I ever took 1000mgs twice a day before?!?!) I have all the side effects that I had when I started it before back in 2004. My stomach is an awful mess, and I'm only on day #3. I know it gets easier to take, but for the life of me at this point I can't remember and I feel like I'm dying. *sigh* The only things getting me through this is the fact that I know Metformin gives me the extra little perk of weight loss (woot, woot) and that I'm hoping to eventually see another BFP that will result in baby #2. Wish me luck, b/c I could definitely quit taking it again and it not bother me in the slightest at this point. Ugh! Hope ya'll are having a better weekend than me.

  1. Sorry that the Metformin is so awful. I'm afraid I don't know anything about it personally, but I do know that no meds related to infertility are very much fun. Sure hope you adjust to it sooner rather than later and that it leads to baby #2

  2. Hi Catrisha!
Thank you so much for stopping by my site :) I will be following you!!!

I was on Metformin previously (2 diff't times) and each time it suuuucked. I hate that stupid medicine. All it did for me was help me lose a little weight b/c I couldn't eat and what I did eat went straight through me. Yucky. My RE took me off of it b/c the benefits weren't outweighing the side effects. He wasn't who prescribed it in the first place anyway.

Hope your #2 baby dreams become reality very soon!

  3. just try to keep reminding yourself that it will get better. for me it took a few weeks, but those first few weeks were AWFUL! everything crossed for a BFP!

  4. I, thankfully, was spared the Met. I don't have glucose or insulin issues (of course, who knows now, with being pregnant). So I was fortunate. I'm sorry it's so awful for you, though. But if it helps to get you to Baby #2, it will all be worth it!

  5. Have you tried the extended release version? It treated me a little better than the real version. I'm up to 1,500 daily.

  9. I know this entry is from February, but I googled "Metformin and dreams" and you came up! I just started taking it 3 days ago and have had the most wicked dreams every night. Did this happen to you? I have been having the nausea also, but the dreams are what has been bothering me the most.

  10. Yellowsnapper- Hopefully you'll check back here and see this. I do have wild crazy off the wall dreams while on Metformin. They will seem so real while they're happening, but once they're over and I wake up... I know they were just dreams. I know it's not listed as a side effect but I've asked my Dr about it before and they said that I was just weird and prescribed me Xanax to help clear my thoughts when I go to bed. Needless to say I quit taking that and dealt with the dreams, b/c honestly I would rather not feel groggy and be able to function in the morning and deal with the dreams, than be the other way around. Hope that helps.

  11. Thanks for answering! Yeah, I would much rather put up with the freak dreams than be zonked out on Xanax. Hopefully I will get pregnant and won't have to be on the Metformin for too long. GAH!
